Executive Snapshot
At an ultra-exclusive luxury resort, part of a world-renowned luxury hotel group, senior leaders operate in a high-touch, high-expectation setting. Recognized on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, ranked among the best resorts in Asia, and awarded the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating, the resort is known for delivering exceptional, highly personalized guest experiences. In an environment where every interaction matters, leadership has a direct impact on team performance, decision-making, and service consistency.
To support leaders navigating the complexity and emotional demands of luxury hospitality, the resort implemented a 1:1 Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Coaching Program built on the Six Seconds Model of Emotional Intelligence and delivered by Six Seconds Preferred Partner 7Level7Energy. The initiative focused on equipping leaders with practical EQ tools they could apply immediately in daily decision-making, people leadership, and operational management.
The pilot program included 27 senior leaders and followed a structured measure → develop → re-measure approach using the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment (SEI)™. Results showed an average 11% increase in overall EQ, with 10–20% improvements across individual core Success Factors such as Effectiveness, Wellbeing, Relationships, and Quality of Life. These gains translated into stronger leadership confidence, improved emotional regulation, and greater effectiveness in managing teams and resort operations. Leaders reported feeling better equipped to balance performance expectations with employee wellbeing – for themselves and their teams.
Why Emotional Intelligence Matters in Luxury Hospitality
Luxury hospitality is, at its core, an emotional business – one that demands more than operational excellence. Guests may remember the setting, the amenities, or the view, but what really stays with them is how they were made to feel: welcomed, understood, cared for, and at ease. Those experiences are shaped not by processes alone, but by people – and especially leaders – whose emotional presence sets the tone for every touchpoint.
Emotional intelligence enables leaders to navigate this complexity with intention. In luxury hospitality, these capabilities are not “soft skills” – they are essential to sustaining service excellence.

Organizational Context
The client is an internationally recognized luxury hospitality organization renowned for delivering highly personalized guest experiences in a high-touch service environment. In an industry where exceptional service depends on human connection, strong leadership and effective collaboration are essential to both operational excellence and memorable guest experiences.
Within this environment, leaders play a critical role in shaping organizational culture, guiding teams through complex decisions, and fostering the emotional climate that influences both employee engagement and service quality.
As the organization continued to invest in leadership development, it identified an opportunity to further strengthen these capabilities through emotional intelligence.
Developing Leaders Through Measurable EQ Coaching
To support senior leaders in strengthening emotional intelligence in a practical, measurable way, the resort partnered with 7Level7Energy, a Six Seconds Preferred Partner specializing in emotionally intelligent and luxury hospitality and premium service industries. Each participating leader completed the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment (SEI), received an individual EQ debrief, and engaged in five 1:1 coaching sessions focused on applying EQ skills directly to their leadership context.
Coaching sessions centered on real-world leadership challenges and equipping leaders with practical tools they could integrate into daily operations. And it made an immediate impact. As one Director reflected, “In a demanding role with multiple stakeholders to please, this program sharpened my ability to influence and make effective decisions.”
Or in the words of another:
“It completely changed the way I manage my own emotions. I’m now far more aware of how my team members feel, and better able to support them and help them be more effective.”
A valuable resource throughout the coaching journey was Being the Best Version of You, a reflective journal created by Charlotte Moore and endorsed by Six Seconds. The journal includes structured exercises that deepen understanding of the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence competencies and support practical application between sessions. Copies are available from 7Level7Energy (UK) and the Six Seconds Store (international orders outside the UK).
The program concluded with a post-program SEI reassessment, enabling leaders and the organization to clearly see measurable changes in emotional intelligence and related success factors.
Measured Outcomes of the EQ Coaching Program
Pre- and post-program data from the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment (SEI) showed substantial growth in emotional intelligence among the resort’s senior leaders following the 1:1 EQ Coaching Program. Across participating leaders, overall emotional intelligence increased by an average of 11% over the course of the program. In the graph below, you can see the average change on each of the individual EQ competencies measured by the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment, or SEI™.
Leaders demonstrated significant gains across key Success Factors measured by the SEI, including: effectiveness, wellbeing, quality of life and relationship strength.
Improvements across these Success Factors ranged from 10–20%, reflecting meaningful development not only in emotional intelligence skills, but in how those skills translated into daily leadership impact and personal sustainability.
Beyond the numbers, leaders described noticeable changes in how they approached their roles – feeling more confident, more grounded under pressure, and better equipped to influence and support their teams. The combination of measurable data and lived experience underscored the program’s impact in strengthening leadership capacity within a demanding hospitality environment.
Effectiveness (+11 %) is about generating results, such as setting and meeting goals. It includes two subscales: Influence is enrolling others in generating results. Decision Making refers to our capacity to assess and determine an effective path.
“It gave me clear insights into my own patterns and behaviors that I hadn’t noticed before, and the tools were practical enough to put into use straight away, strengthening my ability to influence myself and those around me, while giving me greater confidence in my decision-making.”
– Director
Relationships (+11%) refers to building and maintaining personal and professional systems of support. The subscales are: Network, which focuses on professional relationships, and Community, which is about personal and family relationships.
“The real value, though, is how it’s spread beyond me. I’ve been able to pass on what I learned to my leaders and the wider team, and I can already see the positive changes building within our engineering department. For me, that ripple effect is proof that this program works.”
– Manager
Wellbeing (+13%) is about maintaining optimal energy and functioning. The subscales are: Balance, which is about mental & emotional wellness, and Health, which focuses on physical wellbeing.
“The program significantly boosted my self-esteem, self-worth, and confidence. It helped me reframe my mindset”
– Director
Quality of Life (+20%) refers to an overall sense of fulfillment. It includes: Achievement, which is feeling a sense of accomplishment – and Satisfaction, which is feeling appreciation about one’s circumstances.
“I can feel the quiet yet powerful changes within me, and there is a distinct difference in how I now manage the resort operation.”
– Director
EQ as a Strategic Advantage in Hospitality and Beyond
The results of this pilot program highlight a broader truth about leadership in hospitality: emotional intelligence is not an optional capability – it is a strategic advantage.
In environments where service quality depends on human connection, leaders’ emotional intelligence shapes far more than individual performance. It influences team engagement, decision-making under pressure, and the emotional climate that guests ultimately experience. When leaders are more self-aware, confident, and emotionally effective, teams operate with greater trust and consistency – conditions that support sustained excellence in service delivery. You can see this value chain demonstrated in the latest Business Case for Emotional Intelligence.
At the resort, the combination of measurable EQ growth and leaders’ lived experience demonstrates how targeted emotional intelligence development can strengthen leadership effectiveness while supporting wellbeing. As the General Manager reflected: “The 1:1 EQ Coaching Program from 7Level7Energy has had a significant and lasting impact on more than 25 of our leaders. Through the program, we have seen a clear increase in self-awareness, emotional wellbeing, confidence, and overall job satisfaction. Our leaders are communicating with greater clarity, collaborating more effectively, and approaching challenges with a stronger solution-oriented mindset. There is also a renewed sense of pride, purpose, and meaning in the work they do every day, which has positively influenced team morale and engagement across the resort.”
The GM continued: “In the hospitality industry, where people and guest experience are everything, investing in emotional intelligence is an investment in the long-term success of your culture and your people. The personalized 1:1 approach allowed each leader to grow in a way that felt practical, supportive, and deeply impactful. I would strongly recommend this program to other hotels and hospitality organizations looking to strengthen leadership, improve team wellbeing, and create a more connected, motivated, and high-performing workplace.”
Partner Spotlight: 7Level7Energy
This initiative was delivered by 7Level7Energy, a Six Seconds Preferred Partner.
Drawing on the Six Seconds framework and the SEI assessment, Charlotte Moore brought depth, presence, and practical application to the coaching process – supporting leaders in translating emotional intelligence into everyday leadership behavior.
“What impressed me most throughout this project was the pace at which leaders moved from insight to action,” Moore says. “Once they understood their SEI data which came alive using the activities of the journal ‘Being the Best Version of Me’, the shift wasn’t gradual, it was immediate and visible in their day-to-day leadership. We saw leaders pause before reacting in high-pressure situations, approach performance conversations with greater curiosity, and navigate operational challenges with more composure and clarity. The development didn’t stay in the coaching space; it showed up on the floor, in team briefings, and in real-time decision-making. For me, that’s the true measure of impact: when development translates into sustainable behavior change that strengthens both culture and performance.”
This collaboration demonstrates how intentional investment in emotional intelligence strengthens leadership capability, enabling leaders to navigate complexity, build stronger relationships, and lead with greater purpose and impact.
This view was reinforced by the resort’s Head of HR: “I believe leadership growth starts from within. This 1:1 EQ program has helped our leaders better understand themselves, manage emotions, and connect more meaningfully with their teams. The changes we’ve seen in confidence, communication, and empathy reinforce why investing in emotional intelligence is essential for sustainable leadership.”
Since the completion of this case study, the program has expanded to include additional newly appointed leaders.
