EQUIP Sales Profile

Train better salespeople with the EQUIP Sales Profile

What separates exceptional salespeople from average ones? How a salesperson connects, reads a customer, and stays resourceful under pressure. EQUIP measures those skills and turns them into an actionable development plan for salespeople and sales managers.

The problem

Make the invisible visible

EQUIP gives salespeople and sales leaders insight into what actually drives sales results. Rather than focusing on activity, it sets teams up to see the intangibles behind the numbers — how someone builds trust, reads a buyer, and stays resourceful under pressure.

Those are the behaviors that separate top performers — and they are learnable.

The data

Emotional intelligence shows up in sales numbers

39% more likely to hit target — salespeople with higher EQ, compared with lower-EQ peers
12% higher sales after emotional intelligence training, compared with an untrained control group
+$55,000 additional revenue per sales rep, in one case from that same training

What the report gives you

Look inside the EQUIP Sales Profile

Powered by the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment®, used by more than a million people in over 150 countries. The EQUIP Sales Profile gives a snapshot of a person’s preferred sales style and measures how they are applying eight Success Factors right now, then plots that against the two things that decide whether a sales approach fits: how long the cycle runs, and how relational the sale is.

The EQUIP axes A circle crossed by two axes — relational to transactional, and short cycle to long cycle. The four quadrants name the four sales styles: Connector, Generator, Advisor and Negotiator. SHORT CYCLE LONG CYCLE RELATIONAL TRANSACTIONAL Connector Generator Advisor Negotiator
Where a person's marker lands names their style. A marker close to the center means a balanced profile — across hundreds of profiles correlated with real performance, that balance is what top influencers share.

4 Sales Styles

No style is better than another. What matters is the fit between someone's style and the selling their role actually requires.

Connector short cycle · relational

Uses understanding and friendliness to connect rapidly and influence the buying decision. Strongest where building trust quickly closes the sale.

Generator short cycle · transactional

Uses personal drive, resourcefulness and persistence to get results. Strongest on short cycles where features, benefits and hard detail drive the decision.

Advisor long cycle · relational

Builds relationship and trust while setting direction and accountability. Strongest on long cycles where many sales come from one long-term relationship.

Negotiator long cycle · transactional

Applies direction and accountability with persistence and resourcefulness. Strongest where the cycle is long, the buying process complex, and several objectives must be met.

Success Factors

Eight competencies that drive the sale

Success Factors are a real-time measure of how a person is applying each competency that leads to successful sales. The eight percentages add up to 100%, so the report shows a pattern of emphasis, not a score out of ten.

1

Initiative

Driven to take action — moves the process forward, opportunity-driven, a sense of urgency.

2

Persuasion

Builds trust and persuades others to decide — rapport, connection, influence.

3

Persistence

Bounces back, adapts, keeps mental agility — takes what comes in stride and keeps going.

4

Resourcefulness

Identifies and connects needs with solutions — finds the pain point and builds the path to value.

5

Accountability

Manages the sales cycle for useful results — follow-up, timelines, next steps, nothing dropped.

6

Direction

Maintains focus on what matters most — keeps the effort and the buyer conversation on track.

7

Friendliness

Engages and builds rapport — others are comfortable, trust forms, connection is easy.

8

Understanding

Reads decision drivers and patterns in others — emotional insight that sharpens the approach.

Underneath each Success Factor sit Six Seconds EQ competencies — Increase Empathy, Navigate Emotions, Apply Consequential Thinking, Recognize Patterns and the rest. That is what makes EQUIP developable rather than descriptive, and it is the bridge to other, in-depth reports created by the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Assessment, when a client wants to go deeper.

Generator

The generator uses personal drive, resourcefulness and persistence to achieve the desired results. This style provides maximum value when the sales effort is based on a short sales cycle where features and benefits along with key facts and details are more likely to impact the buyer's decision-making process.

How it fits a program

From assessment to measurable change

EQUIP is a diagnostic tool. It earns its place by making everything around it more evidence-based and targeted.

1

Baseline

Profile the individual or the whole sales team.

2

Debrief

A certified practitioner walks each person through their style and factors.

3

Target

Shape training around what the group needs.

4

Coach

Managers follow up against each person's development priorities.

5

Re-measure

Measure again and show what moved or still needs work.

Questions

Before you enroll

Do I need to be EQ certified first?

No. EQUIP sits outside the main Six Seconds certification pathway and is designed to be straightforward to learn and use. If you're already certified on other Six Seconds tools, the e-learning will move quickly.

How long does the certification take?

The e-learning is on demand, so the pace is yours. Beyond that there's a one-hour 1:1 debrief and a 30-minute session for questions or your final learning journal.

Is a high percentage good and a low one bad?

Neither. EQUIP measures how someone is applying the eight Success Factors right now — how much focus and energy goes into each — not how capable they are. The eight figures total 100%, so a low number means "least energy here", not "weak here".

The useful question isn't "did I score well?" It's "is how I'm showing up getting me the results I want?"

Is one sales style better than the others?

No. Each creates maximum value in different situations — short versus long cycles, relational versus transactional approaches. What matters is the fit between someone's style and the kind of selling — and the kind of buyer — their role actually involves.

How is this different from a personality assessment like DiSC?

A personality assessment describes traits, which are relatively stable. EQUIP measures application in real time — how someone is working now — so a profile shifts as they change how they sell. The output is a development plan rather than a label.

It also starts from a sales problem rather than a psychological framework: how this person connects, understands the customer, influences, and closes.

What does a report cost?

Reports are purchased with Six Seconds credits, and your certification includes five. Contact us for current credit pricing and volume rates for larger sales teams.

What languages is it available in?

EQUIP Sales Profile V5 is available in English, Turkish and Chinese.

Can someone retake it to show progress?

Yes — that's the intended use. Because EQUIP measures application rather than a fixed trait, a person can pick one focus area, work it into real calls and real deals, then retake the assessment and see what moved.

Can I use it across a whole sales team?

Yes — that's where it does the most work. Profile the team, use the pattern to shape the training, then re-profile afterwards to show what changed. Talk to us if you're profiling more than 50 people.

Is this the same as EQFit?

It's the same underlying assessment. Six Seconds acquired the EQFit report, rebranded it as the EQUIP Sales Profile, and now maintains and supports it. If you used EQFit before, get in touch — we'll help you move across.

Have questions about EQUIP?

Whether you're weighing it up for your own practice or for an entire sales team, we'll help you work out whether it fits — and how to get started.
