Daniel Goleman tells why the June 2013 NexusEQ Conference at Harvard shows a new, important view of emotional intelligence and “how these concepts actually create positive change in business, education, and beyond.”
When I first began writing about emotional intelligence, there were few examples of these concepts being effectively used. Today, we’re seeing the science and practice come of age as emotional intelligence is integrated into more and more institutions – schools, businesses, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and more.
Next month marks one of the first global conferences on emotional intelligence – NexusEQ – to provide numerous, substantive cases of how these concepts actually create positive change in business, education, and beyond. The conference will take place on June 24-26 at the Harvard Medical School Conference Center.
There we’ll see over 50 cases, with presentations from over 80 scientists and experts sharing the research and practice of emotional intelligence. (read more)

What’s amazing to me? Trained to facilitate through Gardner’s (at the time, Highly questionable Multiple Intelligence Theory), in 1994-1996, we, as elementary education students, were consistently probed and asked to internally question self, reflect, build rapport through humility. What was humility?
We were told if “we humiliated others or humiliated ourselves”, we were not there yet. We were told that until we were aware of doing the prior, we would not be able to truly grasp what others, especially children needed in all areas. However, our professors told us that IF we stayed through this process, we would receive gifts beyond gifts of awareness and acceptance if self and others. Within these , modeling for our students would become “who we are”. It’s true. Thank you for your consistent questioning and connecting. Thank you for staying within the cyclone of change.: )
