Level II - Indiivdual and Organizational Change

EQ Change Agent Certification

EQL2 is an experiential workshop for professionals to become even more effective at leading change. The program applies the Six Seconds EQ Model and EQ Change Model to facilitate individual, team, and organizational change. On completion graduates are licensed to use Six Seconds' "Inside Path to Change" training and the Organizational Vital Signs climate assessment and/or the Assessment of School Climate.

The course is an engaging and challenging combination of experiential learning for your own personal and professional development -- while also developing your professional skills as an agent of change.

Ideal for graduates of our EQ Training and Teaching Certification (Level 1), this program is for people serious about emotional intelligence development, coaching, and teaching. While Level 1 is not a pre-requisite, participants must be conversant in Six Seconds' model.

EQL2 will help you understand:

  • The emotional drivers of change, causes of resistance, and "schema busting" to move beyond resistance.
  • Mechanisms for helping individuals and organizations develop a "buck stops here" approach to integrity.
  • How trust is the defining ingredient to all relationships and ways to give it regular maintenance.
  • How to use the Six Seconds EQ Model and design principles to facilitate change.
  • How to set up, deliver, and interpret the Organizational Vital Signs assessment.

Topics include:

Coaching: One of the most effective mechanisms for sustaining change is developing an alliance. This week you will experiment with peer coaching and learn the key structures required for successful coaching and peer coaching.

Body Language/Empathy: You already know that the majority of communication is outside the text of the words. Did you know that reading body language is central to creating empathy?

Schema/Patterns: If you read Tara Goleman's book you've heard about schema. Now learn how this concept can be integrated into the EQ model and become part of the teaching of patterns. As you grapple with your own schema, you will develop a powerful tool for communicating about the relationship between thinking, feeling, and acting.

EQ Change Model: A practical roadmap for designing and leading change programs, this map can be focused on individuals, teams, and whole organizations.

Improving Feedback: Most people need far more feedback than they get -- and in radically different ways. If you are committed to supporting other people, you need to know the most effective mechanisms for delivering and hearing feedback.

Trust & Consequential Thinking: Perhaps the single most important attitude that we can develop is that "the buck stops here." Learn why this principle of accountability is central to success. And then when you have experienced why trust is the most crucial ingredient in relationships, learn the keys to increasing trust.

Change Mechanisms: We've all had the experience of wanting to change something in ourselves or supporting someone else to do the same -- but what specific mechanisms do you have that work? Do you "will" change to occur or plan for it?

Rebels with a Cause: Alfie Koen says the way to analyze a character education program is to ask, "would this have led students in Germany to support Hitler, or oppose him?" Bringing in new research on the Milgram experiment and related studies, you will identify the key steps to teaching principled living.

OVS: Completing this course you will be licensed to use Six Seconds' climate assessment. Topics include psychometrics, study design, interpreting results, and an introduction to how to use EQ tools to improve climate.

"While Level I was for me an important introduction and broad exposure to the Six Seconds model of EQ and provided great background and general understanding about EQ and its importance, the most powerful and important personal learnings and insights occurred for me at Level II.

The course had profound and lasting impact on my understanding of myself and moved me into new and fruitful territory, allowing me (forcing me?) to deepen my understanding of myself and therefore deepening my understanding of and ability to teach EQ.

I have adapted and used some of the experiments that I experienced in Level II but more importantly, the new understandings of my own patterns and choices, has made me a more effective and clear teacher, facilitator and person and has made teaching EQ a very genuine and personal experience. I have incorporated the learnings into both myself and my work....The EQ work I have been doing for the past 3 years has become an avocation and I am grateful, daily, for the training, materials, inspiration and contacts established through Six Seconds."

-- Amy McConnell Franklin, EQ Educator, Taos NM

"I have received renewed energy and new ideas that I can use to fine tune what I am already doing. I believe that you have accomplished all of the goals and objectives in a an excellent manner"

    - Dan Boyd, Educator
