I'm in the business center of the ANA Hotel in Singapore,
waiting for the print driver to download so I can use my Mac in
this PC world. Culturally and technologically displaced.

It's a metaphor for the various worlds we all travel in. We're all
struggling to stay connected in the constant flow of change, to
maintain a balance on this moving surface.

Today I finished the first Six Seconds' EQ Certification in
Sinapore. We had a powerful group of trainers, managers,
teachers, and individuals working to discover where they fit.
Singapore's an incredibly diverse nation -- a small country of
3.5 million people in three major ethic groups -- and a dozen
permutations. Added to the diversity, this week's course had
people from Malaysia, and an adventurer from The Netherlands!

One of the most frequent questions I get is, "Will EQ make
    sense in my cultural/business/educational/regional context?"
Each time I do a course someplace new I ask myself that too.
Again today I got to see that the language of emotions may be
    universal.

What's culturally appropriate, how we express, and the words
we use seems to change -- but the basic messages seem to
remain the same: I want to belong, to be understood, to forgive
past hurts, to connect honestly and compassionately with
others, to make a difference, to live as a source of joy and
    hope for myself and others.

In some nations our EQ allies make tearful and empassioned
statements, in others they speak the same volumes with dry
eyes. EQ communication is not about all using the same
words and styles -- it's about truly listening to what's inside.

    Warmly yours from Singapore,
    - Josh
