Stay tuned for Part II of "What IS?" -- I received excellent advice about
anger and making change -- and will share it next week!!!

    EQ Reflection: Global Emotions

The Six Seconds' team has trained people from six continents, over 20
countries, upwards of five major religions, spanning ages 5 to 75,
representing around 50 different professions, and at least 40 diverse
    ethnicities.

Each group is different, a mix of individual participants, each a singular
entity unique in the history of the world.

And, we are all the same.

Over and over, I have had the opportunity to see that people are concerned
with the core issues and facing the same challenges. We're seeking
stronger connections, increasing trust, enhancing resilience, and
persevering through change. All of us seem to struggle with "irrational"
fears, emotion we do not express appropriately, and at the root we all seem
driven by a quest for acceptance and love.

Last week I had the pleasure of copresenting our 14th EQ Certification
Course. It was in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jakarta's daytime population is
between 10 and 15 million people. Indonesia has some 13,000 islands and
is the largest Islamic population in the world (approximately 80% of the
192 million population). We had 25 participants from Jakarta, and 1
from Sri Lanka. Almost all were in corporate human resources as
managers, trainers, and directors, and consultants.

So, I went into the course with some anxiety. How would this all-business,
English-as-a-second-language, diverse, Asian group respond to the course
and two American presenters? Before the course started, Todd (one of our
Level II Associates and my copresenter) and I shared our concerns. I said,
"I know the content will be solid -- but I am afraid we might not have the
'magic' that makes this a life-changing experience."

On the 5th day, one of the participants -- a corporate attorney -- said
something like: "This morning I took time to really talk to my daughter and
share with her from my heart. Seeing her look at me in the eyes like that,
it was worth any price. I feel like I have been reborn."

I learned, again, that we each pursue emotional intelligence for different
reasons -- and at the core, the relationships that matter most to us are
with the people we love. So while I am confident that these 26 graduates
will bring skills and tools back to their organizations, the real power
comes when personal and professional skills are unified.

I am committed that we keep doing this kind of training and lighting the
beacon of EQ practice. So, here is some shameless self promotion:

Please visit the training calendar and sign up for a Six Seconds'

    And one more request:

Sometimes I wonder why this course is not always full months in advance.
As far as I know, it is more in-depth, less expensive, and has been running
longer than any other EQ certification or intensive training. So -- if you
are commited to building EQ and you are **not** planning to come to a Six
Seconds' cert course, I would like to know why you are making that
decision. It will help our organization to better serve the movement if you
will share this information! You could send your reply to me or to
    .

I know you are working in your own way to build an emotionally intelligent
world -- and I appreciate the incredible work that this network of people
is accomplishing. Thank you for your commitment, your interest, and for
    reading another EQ Reflection.

    Warmly,
    -Josh

our web site. We are replacing that software.
