A hands-on, fun week of learning and playing to
discover how to be the leader of your own life.

    San Mateo, California
    August 20-24, 2001
    9:00 am – 3:30 pm
    for 6-10 year olds

    (650) 685-9885

    ***************************
    About the week:
    ***************************
With projects, games, and discussions, we’ll learn the 10 secrets to
being a leader of your own life. By the end of the week we’ll all be a
little more wise, we’ll have specific tools for dealing with life to
increase safety, self-control, and self-direction. Most of all, we’ll
have better ways of understanding ourselves and our relationships.

We create an environment with trust and excitement, then we do
creative activities followed by interesting questions.

    ***************************
    Contents:
    ***************************
The week is divided into three parts.

Know Yourself includes naming and communicating emotions, seeing
how your brain works, and looking at the patterns you follow.

Choose yourself includes self-control, motivation, and optimism.

Give yourself includes making choices that make the world better, so
we’ll do some activities about being a part of families and
    communities.

We’ll work with art materials, see videos, read books, we’ll do some
writing, do Self-Science* experiments (activities and games which
help us see emotional intelligence in action), we’ll talk, and set goals.

[*Self-Science is the EQ curriculum we publish, see
    http://character.self-science.com]

    ***************************
    Participants and structure:
    ***************************
People ages 6-10 will work together in groups of up to 14. Activties
will be indoors and outdoors. Bring comfy clothes, bag lunches, and
    your brains.

There is a free afternoon workshop for parents. The camp is $225
or $200 ea for groups of 3 or more. A limited number of reduced-
fee scholarships are available with demonstrated financial need.

The program is developed and supervised by Six Seconds’ full time
staff of educators, trainers, and researchers. Our team has written

and the Self-Science curriculum). You can read more about us and our

    ***************************
Why do kids care about EQ?:
    ***************************

Ever get really mad and say something you wish you hadn’t?

Ever have a friend feeling sad and not know what to say?

Ever feel like stuff is happening inside you and you don’t know how to
    explain your feelings?

Sometimes feel bored or not sure what really matters to you?

Emotional intelligence is tools for feelings. Tools for understanding,
talking about, and changing your feelings -- and other peoples’ feelings.
It includes all kinds of ways of talking to other people -- and talking to
yourself. It helps you be who you want to be, and be a good friend
(which is also the only way to have a good friend).

    ***************************
Why do parents care about EQ?:
    ***************************

Have you ever wished your child was more self-aware, had more
    self-control, or was more self-directed?

Do you want your child to be a problem-solver, a listener, a leader?
Reliable, kind, powerful? All these traits are linked to emotional
intelligence (EQ) -- and they can learn these skills.

For a long time people have said that emotions get in the way of
learning and achievement. Now we know that emotions are the route to
learning and achievement. For most people it is no surprise that
    learning self-motivation, communication, and self-awareness
improves success -- and for those that are surprised, visit our
    website for some more reading!
