Tips on choosing an expert:
There are many people claiming to be "internationally known experts on emotional intelligence," and while they may be wonderful speakers or trainers, their "expertise" often means they've read a book or two. We suggest that if you are going to bring the science of emotional intelligence to work in your organization, you look for people who...
Have been working full-time in this subject for 5-10 years (ask them for 3-4 specific, significant projects that span several years).
Are putting these concepts into practice in their own work and life (ask what key EQ tools they use and how that's changed their effectiveness).
Use the latest neuroscience and research on emotion and cognition (ask them to cite some peer-reviewed journal articles and translate those to your audience's context).
Are published themselves, or part of team that conducts research and publishes (ask for some articles and book references from their team).
Focus on both emotion and intelligence (versus personality, temperament, and other related but different concepts).
In the process of creating the international NexusEQ Conferences, we have developed relationships with numerous emotional intelligence experts and authors. If you would like to be connected with one of these people, please complete the form below. Check the "Recommend someone" box if you'd like some advice on a speaker -- be sure to explain your needs so we can make an excellent recommendation!
