Joshua is the author of At the Heart of Leadership, a practical guide for leaders to tap the power of emotions to get better results. He is the co-author of the Organizational Vital Signs (OVS) assessment, a powerful tool for measuring organizational climate, and the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence test (SEI), a set of development-focused measures ideal for professional and personal growth. He is also the author of numerous training programs including The Heart of Leadership and The Inside Path to Change (for the US Navy).

Freedman has trained individuals and teams from Lockheed Martin, Etihad Airways, the World Bank Group, Schlumberger, American Express, Morgan Stanley, the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship, Make-A-Wish Foundation and numerous other leading companies and organizations. In a year-long EQ initiative, Joshua helped the Sheraton Studio City improve market share by 24%, drop turnover by 19%, and increase guest satisfaction by 8%

He co-developed Six Seconds’ EQ Certification Training which he has delivered on five continents as master-trainer to hundreds of professionals seeking practical tools for learning and teaching emotional intelligence.

Joshua's applied research focuses on organizational climate and the factors that enhance individual and team performance. Using the "Organizational Vital Signs" survey, he has worked with a range of organizations to identify key relationship and emotional intelligence factors that limit and enhance success.

Joshua champions emotional intelligence development around the world. He has help launch emotional intelligence initiatives and organizations in Singapore, Indonesia, India, Australia, Mexico, US, Canada, Venezuela, Italy, England, the Netherlands, UAE, and South Africa. He chairs the International NexusEQ Conferences which recently hosted delegates from 37 nations. He edits the magazine EQ Today, and coauthored the Handle With Care EQ Activity series, the EQ Learning Journal, and two volumes of the Self-Science EQ Curriculum as well as numerous articles on practical applications of emotional intelligence.

Living in a small town on the central coast of California with his wife and two young children, Joshua enjoys walking on the beach and gardening. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the World Arts and Cultures program at UCLA.
