Insight. Connection. Thriving.
The 3rd Annual Virtual Festival of Emotional Intelligence. Online everywhere – March 10-15, 2014
Over 60 free webinars + daily resources for managers. teachers. coaches & trainers. you!
How do you use EQ to increase performance? Learning? Health? How can we develop this awareness and these skills? How do I handle my own and others’ emotions more productively?
The 3rd Annual Virtual Festival of Emotional Intelligence is set to begin Monday, March 10. Live, interactive webinars will feature a host of thought leaders within the EQ (emotional intelligence) community. The agenda is online at www.6seconds.org/e/. Participants from around the world will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions and take part in exercises designed to hone emotional intelligence. The event is sponsored by Six Seconds (www.6seconds.org), an organization devoted to positive change in all facets of daily life.
The Virtual Festival of Emotional Intelligence, also known as EQ Week, differs from a typical conference in several ways. Rather than renting out a convention space and asking attendees and presenters to fly in from hundreds or thousands of miles away, the festival takes place entirely in the virtual world during the week of March 10–14. The festival is also less academic in tone, as the topics of discussion cover everything from adapting EQ to business to improving parenting skills.
The list of notable speakers includes luminaries such as:
Richard Boyatzis: Coaching EQ for Leadership
Mary Helen Immordino Yang: Neuroscience of Learning
Dan Siegel: Brainstorm – Courage and Change in the Adolescent’s Brain
However, instead of the traditional format in which speakers deliver their message to a rapt but silent audience, the Festival of Emotional Intelligence emphasizes interaction and online conversation. Presenters will have complete freedom to arrange sessions however they choose.
Emotional Intelligence Everywhere
“The Virtual Festival of Emotional Intelligence is the largest event of its kind,”
explained Six Seconds CEO Joshua Freedman. “There are no registration fees or eligibility requirements; it’s free and available to anyone with an Internet connection anywhere in the world. In previous festivals, the diversity of the registrants was one of the most fascinating aspects of the event. That diversity allows for a provocative and meaningful dialogue for everyone, as various cultural insights come together through the medium of technology.”
Emotional Intelligence For Everyone
Each day, festival webinar sessions will touch upon nearly every domain of modern life, including business, government, education, parenting, life skills and so on. At 00 hours, an email goes out to all subscribers with the day’s agenda and other pertinent material. All sessions are recorded and will be available for a month following EQ Week to accommodate those with busy schedules.
The great irony of the age of social networking is that people are, in many ways, becoming less social. Instead of creating genuine connections, people create finely edited versions of themselves. As life becomes more complex and true relationships diminish, the eventual symptoms are no surprise: stress and loneliness are on the rise, as is escapism. Six Seconds’ mission is to bring society closer to a more natural balance between technology and human connection. Telecommunications and social networking are here to stay, but the potential exists to give a higher purpose to these technological tools; EQ Week is an example of using the power of the Internet in a novel, meaningful way.
State of the Heart Report
Six Seconds will release a report during EQ Week unveiling some intriguing new findings on emotional intelligence. The report is based on the results of survey that queried more than 70,000 individuals throughout six regions of the world.
As a center for practical research and teaching, the nonprofit Six Seconds has steadily built a global presence since its founding in 1997. With representatives in 25 countries, the organization is helping to disseminate the concept of emotional intelligence. The EQ movement can trace its origins the research of Drs. John Mayer and Peter Salovey, though it was the publication of Daniel Goleman’s “Emotional Intelligence — Why It Can Matter More Than IQ” in 1995 that catapulted emotional intelligence into the mainstream.
