Mary Morton and Lori Evans will speak about The Power of Language in Building Classroom Community at this year’s Pacific Regional Leadership Conference of the National Education Association.  Taking place February 13-15 in Seattle, Washington, this 3-day conference boasts attendance of nearly 1000 educators, educational support professionals and administrators from across the western states.  The theme of this year’s conference is “New Ideas, New Leadership, and New Direction”.

This workshop provides tools to help educators, support staff, and students develop an awareness of ownership by familiarizing participants with ownership language.  Reasons for teaching the concept of ownership to students, along with practical applications are outlined in this presentation.  Participants will receive an introduction to the steps for teaching ownership in their classrooms through problem solving techniques that allow students and teachers to walk away from situations with dignity intact.  Participants are guided through effective ways of introducing the idea of impact with students and are given steps to teaching about impact in the classroom.  Strategies, activities and resources successfully tested in classrooms will be provided.
